Which Online Retailer Has The Best Free Delivery Options?

Big box retailers are constantly fighting for your business. And do you know who they are targeting the hardest at the moment? Online shoppers: The busiest customers who don’t have time to shop in stores, who use grocery pick up and delivery services on the regular and who want to buy everything online for less, with free delivery. Walmart, Amazon and Target are all competing for your business by introducing new services including curbside pickup, in-home and even in-car delivery options. Here’s how their offerings stack up against each other.

Walmart

Free curbside delivery. They won’t deliver the groceries to your door, but Walmart offers free curbside delivery to save you time and money. Complete your order online, set a pickup time and drive up to have your items loaded in your trunk. Pickup times can be the same day if you order before 1 pm. Pickup towers and lockers. When you order anything online and schedule an in-store pickup, you can now skip the customer service lines. Walmart is offering pickup towers similar to vending machines, and pickup lockers in over 200 stores. So now when you order your TV, bed or electronics from the website you’ll simply scan the barcode at the tower or locker and your box will come out on a conveyor belt or the door will open. Pretty nifty!

Amazon

In-home delivery. With their Prime subscription, Amazon has revolutionized online shopping and fast delivery. Now, if you have an Amazon Key you can have access to in-home delivery, meaning you don’t have to be home for Amazon delivery people to drop something off inside your home (The Washington Post did a great review of this service and all of its pros and cons). Check to see if your zip code is eligible here. Once you purchase a camera and smart lock, there are no additional fees besides your Prime subscription, which is $119 per year. In-car delivery. Amazon is going above and beyond the curbside pickup with their in-car delivery service, offered even when you’re not in your car. If you have a 2015 or newer Chevrolet, GMC, Volvo, Buick or Cadiallac with an OnStar Account and the Amazon Key app, you can have a delivery personnel drop the package into the your trunk of your parked car. No more worrying about packages being stolen from the front porch. And, there’s no extra charge beyond the cost of your Prime subscription. AmazonFresh. If you’ve ever ordered groceries with Amazon Pantry, you know how convenient it is stock up your pantry without leaving your house. Well now you can get your all your groceries delivered as soon as the same day or next day. You can order groceries, snacks, household, health and beauty products all with this service. The cost is $14.99 per month and prices on food are similar to Whole Foods, however they do offer “fresh deals” each week.

Target

The new curbside delivery service at Target is probably good for one thing and one thing only: my wallet. That’s because I love browsing through the dollar spot, clothes, shoes and accessories as I meander my way towards the things I actually need on my list. But, if I want to stick to my list, the drive-up option will definitely be the best option. Place your curbside order with the app. With the Target app you can now order eligible items and groceries online and have them delivered to your car when you arrive. You’ll receive a push notification when your order is ready, which is usually within a few hours. There is no additional cost for the service. Feature Image: Twenty20
