If You Own An iPhone Apple Might Owe You $25

Now is the time to check if you own (or have ever owned) an iPhone 6, 6 Plus, 6s, 6s Plus, 7, 7 Plus, or SE advice. Why, you ask? Well, that’s because Apple has agreed to pay up to $500 million to settle a class action over its phone batteries. The litigation accused Apple of slowing down older iPhones as it introduced new iPhones to market. When Apple first got accused of this practice, the company apologized and lowered the price for replacement batteries to $29 from $79. Many people didn’t think this went nearly far enough, thus the class action suit. To agree to the settlement, Apple is not admitting to wrongdoing but they are paying up. Per Reuters, those that have or had this kind of iPhone are eligible (emphasis on eligible) for $25. This number could ultimately be adjusted up or down depending on how many people make claims and how many iPhones are ultimately eligible. Apple must pay out a minimum of $310 million. Now, remember what happened when Equifax had a similar class action settlement, and way more people then were anticipated applied, meaning the amount individuals will receive from that will likely be quite small? There are a lot of similarities here. Still, money you are owed is money you are owed. Watch this space. We’ll tell you how to file a claim when that information becomes available.
