The Biggest Financial Worry Keeping People Up At Night

The economy may be roaring ahead, but that hasn’t stopped people from losing sleep over financial worries. According to a new survey from CreditCards.com, a whopping 65% of Americans lose sleep over money. That’s a huge swatch of the country. And what exactly is the biggest financial worry people have? Health care bills and health insurance top the the list. According to the survey, a whopping 38% of Americans are losing sleep over money concerns related to health care, up 9% compared to last year. This shouldn’t exactly be a surprise given how much health care has been in the news with people straddled with massive insurance premiums, record prices for drugs, and no solution from the government seemingly on the horizon. Next up on the list is saving for retirement, which 37% of Americans lie awake at night worrying about. And to round out the list is the number of people who are worrying about education expenses. 34% of people are stressing about those expenses, a big jump from 2007 when this was a stress point for just two of 10 Americans. It’s hard not to stress about money, but there are things you can do to make the situation better for yourself, like making a budget, planning ahead as much as possible, and getting help from the right places. Whatever you do, don’t just lie in bed worrying about it at night while burying the problem in the day. Image: Unsplash
