If you’re an owner of a Vitamix blender, then you know they aren’t the cheapest blender on the block. And once you’ve invested in one, you want to make sure it’s functioning exactly like it should. The last things you need are unwanted blended black flecks in your food.

The Vitamix class-action claim

Have you seen little black specks in your food when you use your Vitamix? The plaintiffs are alleging that the top seals of the blades assembly are defective because they leave tiny black polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) specs in blended food and liquids. See the full claim and T&C’s here. PTFE is a non-stick material that is not harmful. But, this is not what you expect from a blender that costs hundreds of dollars. Vitamix hasn’t admitted to wrongdoings, but wants to agree to a preliminary settlement in order to put this behind them.

Check the date and model

If your Vitamix household blender has an assembly date on or after January 1, 2007 until October 1, 2016, you can submit a claim to qualify for a $70 gift card or replacement blade. The date is reportedly located at the bottom of the blender container. For all commercial blenders, the action affects those purchased between September 15, 2015 and August 9, 2016. The manufacture date can be found on the blades. Consumer Reports, estimates about 6 million Vitamix blenders are affected. However, the Vitamix Ascent, Explorian and Venturest models are not included in the settlement.
