Is January The Best Time Of Year To Look For A New Job?

January is all about bringing in the new for most people. People want to get their financial life together. They want to go on a diet. And, for a lot of, they want to get a new job. Per Monster, one of the largest job listings sites on the internet, January and February are the most active months for job seekers.
But is it the best time to look for a new job?
Well, according to the job site ZipRecruiter, there is a big bump in the amount of listings this time of year. Per the site, they see a 15% increase in listings from December to January.
That seems like all upside, but per Julia Pollak who is the labor economist at ZipRecruiter, that increase in listings also brings an increase in job seekers, meaning their is also an increase in competition at this point of the year. “Apply early and follow up on any emails or interviews with the company promptly,” she told CNBC.
Keep in mind that even though it’s a competitive time of year, the job market is looking pretty good overall. Per the Bureau of Labor Statistics there are around 7.3 million job openings in the US at the moment and the unemployment rate is just 3.5%.
