Reap The Rewards Of Yoga Without Paying For A Class

If you can’t afford the expensive yoga pants, then there’s a good chance you also won’t be able to afford the $15 or $20 yoga class. You’ve really got to look the part to play the part.

But, don’t let money stop you from reaping the benefits of yoga and meditation.

As someone who is a certified yoga teacher and taken hundreds, if not thousands, of classes, I can assure you that you don’t need the fancy pants or studio to benefit from this ancient practice.

Here’s How

Yoga And Meditation Starts With The Breath 

Take five seconds to inhale through your nose and five seconds to exhale through your nose. Do you feel more relaxed? Use this trick when someone cuts you off in traffic, or when your train is late, or when you feel overwhelmed at work. Remembering to breathe helps center and focus the mind, which is a crucial tactic for navigating your way through life.

Then Comes Posture

The best thing you can do to reap the rewards of yoga is to align your posture. Roll your shoulders back, tighten your core, tuck your tailbone, and stand up straight. Take this posture with you wherever you go and you’ll be well on your way to becoming a master yogi.

Stretch Often

If you sit at a desk all day, take small breaks throughout the day to stretch. Reach your arms up over your head, or bend down and touch your toes, or roll your head in large circles, first clockwise and then counterclockwise. You’ll relax your body and your mind, which will allow you to work better and more efficiently.

Set A Routine

Sun Salutation (Surya Namaskar) is a series of 12 gracefully linked postures that is at the heart of a yoga practice. Known as the “Salute to the Sun,” it’s best to do these postures in the morning on an empty stomach. But if you’re pressed for time, you can always come home in the evening and perform this sequence. If you speed up your Sun Salutation, you’ll get a great cardiovascular workout. Or you can slow it down for a more reflective and relaxing experience. Perform the 12 postures on both the left and the right side. You can repeat the sequence as many times as you wish.

Set Aside Time To Meditate 

I often hear from people that they don’t know how, or don’t have time to meditate. I’m here to tell you otherwise. If you don’t know how to meditate, that’s O.K, you learn through practice (even if it feels strange in the beginning). Plus, it can be a different experience for everyone. If you don’t have time to meditate, you do. Just take three to 10 minutes out of your day to sit with yourself and clear your mind from your daily struggles.

So if you’re tired of paying for visits to the doctor, start taking control of your body and your mind and you’ll end up saving big time. If you have your health, you have everything.
