7 Ways I Bring In Extra Cash Every Month To Cover My Bills — And They All Involve My Smartphone

Like a lot of people, what I make at my job isn’t quite enough to cover my bills every month like my rent, my phone bill, and the rest of my monthly expenses. I’ve tried everything to make it work: budgeting, working on the weekends at a store (which was totally exhausting by the way), mostly eating Ramen noodles to save money, you name it, I’ve tried it (and let me say on the record that only eating Ramen sucks).

Well, I kept searching, and that’s when I learned I could make a little bit of money right on my phone, wherever I happen to be. It’s been a game changer and set me on the hunt to find all of the ways that I could make money right on my phone.

Here are the best options I’ve found, and how I use them to bring in a little extra cash every month. It’s made all of the difference for me, and now I’m never stuck right before payday with nothing in my bank account — otherwise known as the worst feeling ever.

1. I Play Mobile Games To Earn Gift Cards To Pay My Expenses (Great For Groceries)!

Groceries are one of the things that takes the biggest bite out of my budget, which is why I was so excited to find a way to start earning money by playing mobile games.

Mistplay is a mobile game platform where I earn gift cards just for playing games (I do this after work, on the couch, while I’m catching up on Netflix).

Once I downloaded the app, I started by choosing free games from a “mixlist” and started earning gift cards from Amazon and Visa. It was that easy to add more money to my budget.

2. There’s A Way I Make Money Just For Unlocking My Phone

Think about the amount of time that you spend looking at your phone every day. Now, imagine if you were getting paid for all of that time. I do.

With S’more (download for Android) I earn cash every time I unlock my Android phone (sorry iPhone people).

Right about now you are probably rolling your eyes and thinking this is a scam. It’s not. S’more is helping brands reach people with their content/products and that’s what they are paying you to look at. You don’t need to click anything to get paid, either.

In return for doing almost nothing, I earn gift cards to places including Amazon, Best Buy, CVS, Target, Starbucks and more.

I just use my phone like normal to accrue points which can be cashed out when I earned as little as $1. If you use an Android phone, what’s not to love?

3. Every Time I Grocery Shop, I Earn Cash Thanks To This App

I say it all of the time that groceries are one of my biggest budget killers, which is why I swear by Ibotta to earn cash back when grocery shopping at stores like Walmart or Whole Foods.

I scan my grocery store receipts and Ibotta instantly pays me cash back based on my purchases. I recently go 75 cents for buying milk, $5 for Stella Artois, and $1 for my favorite pasta.

Perk: You get a free $10 for just signing up, which I was all about.

4. I Used This App To Cut Out A Ton Of Subscriptions I Don’t Even Remember Signing Up For

I have signed up for so many trial subscriptions over the years and totally forgotten to cancel them on time (my fault I know) and ended up getting charged. It’s so annoying.

Well, I’ll never make that mistake again thanks to Truebill. Once I signed-up and got connected I was able to see all of my upcoming bills and recurring subscriptions in one place.

That’s when I realized I was paying for Hulu every month because I had signed up for a free trial months ago to watch an episode of Real Housewives (don’t judge).

I was able to cancel it on the spot, along with a gym membership I’ve only used a handful of times.

Truebill doesn’t stop there when it comes to saving you money. You can also have them negotiate bills on your behalf like your phone bill or cable TV bill (on average people save $96 a year per bill this way).

The average Truebull user can save up to $720 a year and I’ve already saved a ton!

5. When I Have Time, I Earn Cash Taking Surveys Right On My Phone

I’ve tried a lot of different paid surveys online to make some extra cash and the best option I’ve found is Survey Junkie. I can take easy online survey for the brands I use all of the time. When I’m bored, eating lunch, or just hanging around, I use the Survey Junkie app to make some extra cash.

Survey Junkie in particular is really awesome because it allows me to cash out quickly – I just have to earn $10. If I’m needing a little bit of cash in a pinch, this is my go-to.

6. Just For Downloading An App, I Earned $36

OK, I can be shameless when it comes to milking sign-up bonuses. Money is money, am I right?

There’s an app called Affinityy that offers people cash back when they shop online. You can get up to 15% cash back at online stores like Macy’s, Walmart and so many more.

All great stuff, but the big reason that I am obsessed with Affinityy is because they pay you just to sign-up and to do a few other simple task:

  • $20 first purchase cash reward
  • Earn $3 cash when you download the app
  • Earn $3 cash when you download the browser extension on desktop
  • Up to $10 per referral of family/friends
  • Earn $5, $10, and $20 cash bonuses the more you shop with Affinityy

7. Lastly, I Make Sure To Earn Cash Back On Everything I Buy (And I Mean Everything)

Once I started earning cash back on a few things, I made it my mission to earn cash back on literally everything I buy. I found Drop which allows me to earn points to put towards gift cards for practically everything I buy on a debit or credit card.

Every store you can imagine is eligible for points — I’m talking Sephora, Aerie, Zara, Whole Foods — all of the stores I shop at the most.

I earn points automatically because I’ve linked my debit card, so I don’t even need to think about it.

I trade in my points for free gift cards to places like Starbucks or Amazon, which is basically cash in my mind. This has meant more money is freed up in my monthly budget.

Use the promo code MoneyManual to cash in on 1,000 points right now.

As you can tell, I am app obsessed! But I’ve found that the combination of finding a few very easy ways to make money, and a few easy ways to save money, can make all of the difference when it comes to making sure I have enough money in my checking account to cover my bills.
