7 Ways I Bring In Extra Cash Every Month To Cover My Bills — And They All Involve My Smartphone

Like a lot of people, what I make at my job isn’t quite enough to cover my bills every month like my rent, my phone bill, and the rest of my monthly expenses. I’ve tried everything to make it work: budgeting, working on the weekends at a store (which was totally exhausting by the way), mostly eating Ramen noodles to save money, you name it, I’ve tried it (and let me say on the record that only eating Ramen sucks).

Well, I kept searching, and that’s when I learned I could make a little bit of money right on my phone, wherever I happen to be. It’s been a game changer and set me on the hunt to find all of the ways that I could make money right on my phone.

Here are the best options I’ve found, and how I use them to bring in a little extra cash every month. It’s made all of the difference for me, and now I’m never stuck right before payday with nothing in my bank account — otherwise known as the worst feeling ever.

1. I Play Mobile Games To Pay My Bills

Getting paid to play mobile games sounds like a dream for most people – Mistplay makes that dream my reality.

Mistplay is a game platform app which lets you earn rewards for playing new games. Those points can be redeemed for awesome gift cards from Amazon, VISA, Google and more. I use them to pay my groceries and sometimes even my rent!

Just download the app, choose a free game from your “mixlist” and start earning units. The more you play, the more you earn! As a game lover, it’s a simple idea that can result in a big payday.

2. There’s A Way I Make Money Just For Unlocking My Phone

Think about the amount of time that you spend looking at your phone every day. Now, imagine if you were getting paid for all of that time. I do.

With S’more (download for Android) I earn cash every time I unlock my Android phone (sorry iPhone people).

Right about now you are probably rolling your eyes and thinking this is a scam. It’s not. S’more is helping brands reach people with their content/products and that’s what they are paying you to look at. You don’t need to click anything to get paid, either.

In return for doing almost nothing, I earn gift cards to places including Amazon, Best Buy, CVS, Target, Starbucks and more.

I just use my phone like normal to accrue points which can be cashed out when I earned as little as $1. If you use an Android phone, what’s not to love?

3. Every Time I Grocery Shop, I Earn Cash Thanks To This App

I say it all of the time that groceries are one of my biggest budget killers, which is why I swear by Ibotta to earn cash back when grocery shopping at stores like Walmart or Whole Foods.

I scan my grocery store receipts and Ibotta instantly pays me cash back based on my purchases. I recently go 75 cents for buying milk, $5 for Stella Artois, and $1 for my favorite pasta.

Perk: You can get up to $20 for free in welcome bonuses when you join. I’m all about this one..

4. I Used This App To Cut Out A Ton Of Subscriptions I Don’t Even Remember Signing Up For

I have signed up for so many trial subscriptions over the years and totally forgotten to cancel them on time (my fault I know) and ended up getting charged. It’s so annoying.

Well, I’ll never make that mistake again thanks to Truebill. Once I signed-up and got connected I was able to see all of my upcoming bills and recurring subscriptions in one place.

That’s when I realized I was paying for Hulu every month because I had signed up for a free trial months ago to watch an episode of Real Housewives (don’t judge).

I was able to cancel it on the spot, along with a gym membership I’ve only used a handful of times.

Truebill doesn’t stop there when it comes to saving you money. You can also have them negotiate bills on your behalf like your phone bill or cable TV bill (on average people save $96 a year per bill this way).

The average Truebull user can save up to $720 a year and I’ve already saved a ton!

5. I Used This App To Get A Personal Loan The Same Day I Applied For It

When I needed a loan to cover a large unexpected bill, I knew going to a bank or credit union would mean waiting days or even weeks (time I didn’t have) to get approved. Luckily I had recently found out about Fiona. With it, you can apply, get approved and get access to your loan funds all in the same day.

Fiona is a free online marketplace that people can use to find and compare rates for personal loans. All you have to do is fill out a simple form and within seconds, the app will compare offers from top lenders that you pre-qualify for. Based on your answers and your creditworthiness, the app will match with a loan that best meets your needs. If you like its terms, you can apply for it directly through the app and get approved in seconds.

You can borrow up to $100,000 and fixed interest rates start at 4.99%. Payments can be paid over a 24 to 84-month period.

Fiona made getting some quick cash super easy and I was able to do it from the comfort of my home. When you need to cover an unexpected expense in a pinch, Fiona is your best bet.

6. I Make Sure To Earn Cash Back On Everything I Buy (And I Mean Everything)

Once I started earning cash back on a few things, I made it my mission to earn cash back on literally everything I buy. I found Drop which allows me to earn points to put towards gift cards for practically everything I buy on a debit or credit card.

Every store you can imagine is eligible for points — I’m talking Sephora, Aerie, Zara, Whole Foods — all of the stores I shop at the most.

I earn points automatically because I’ve linked my debit card, so I don’t even need to think about it.

I trade in my points for free gift cards to places like Starbucks or Amazon, which is basically cash in my mind. This has meant more money is freed up in my monthly budget.

Use the promo code MoneyManual to cash in on 1,000 points right now.

7. When I Have Time, I Earn Cash Taking Surveys Right On My Phone

I’ve tried a lot of different paid surveys online to make some extra cash and the best option I’ve found is InboxDollars. I can take easy online survey for the brands I use all of the time. When I’m bored, eating lunch, or just hanging around, I use InboxDollars to make some extra cash.

InboxDollars in particular is really awesome because you get a free $5 signup bonus when you join today. If I’m needing a little bit of cash in a pinch, this is my go-to.

Bonus. I Make Passive Income By Investing With A Few Bucks

I’d been wanting to start investing forever since dividends are a great way to passively earn extra cash. But knowing where to start investing is hard.

A friend suggested I start start investing in the legal cannabis industry. It’s an industry that is projected to blow up in the next few years with retail sales expected to hit $10 billion this year and $24.5 billion in 2021 per Fortune*

With the micro-investing app Stash you can start investing with as little as $5. It only took me two minutes to sign up and Stash has a curated selection of 200 plus stocks and Exchange Traded Funds to choose from. They’ve made it incredibly easy to get started — including with investing options in the legal cannabis industry.

They’re even giving everyone $5 to sign-up now and get started!
