So, When Am I Getting That Coronavirus Stimulus Check?

Since the news broke that the government was going to be sending stimulus checks to people making below $99,000 a year (for the tax year 2018 or 2019 depending on the last time they filed) the question on everyone’s mind has been: when do I get the money? Finally, some more information has been trickling out about this. The first stimulus relief checks went out over the weekend, per the IRS. The vast majority of the remaining people should get their check in the next few weeks (via direct deposit). The IRS is also rolling out a tracking tool by April 17th called “Get My Payment.” There, you’ll also be able to share your direct deposit information in case the IRS doesn’t have your updated information. And just some reminders about the check itself (since we get questions nonstop on this topic):
  1. The checks are for $1,200 for people with adjusted gross income below $75,000 and $2,400 for couples earning below $150,000. People earning up to $99,000 will receive at least something. Parents with income at qualifying levels with dependents will receive $500 per child.
  2. Those who filed in 2018 and 2019 and who the IRS has their direct deposit information will get paid first.
  3. Paper checks are going to take much longer and won’t begin to be mailed until May, and could take months.
  4. The checks aren’t going to be taxed. What you get is what you get.
  5. There are very few exceptions. If you meet the eligibility requirements, and have a Social Security number, you’ll get a check.
  6. Your income will be determined by the last time you filed taxes so either 2019 or 2018.
And there you have it! D0n’t worry, we’ll keep covering this as we hear more. Feature Image: Twenty20
