You don’t need a survey to tell you that a lot of people are very stressed in their jobs. Wouldn’t it be nice, you probably think on a daily basis, to have a job that is not only not so stressful? Is that too much to ask?
Per CareerCast these jobs do in fact exist. Based on their recent survey, people tend to define high stress jobs as ones with a lot of public interaction and constant hard deadlines. Have a job that put’s you in harms way–say a job as a police officer–and you are bound to be even more stressed.
CareerCast looked at things like environmental conditions, deadlines, growth potential, and more–to identify jobs at the other end of the spectrum. Their list of the least stressful jobs runs the gamut from creative fields to medical offices, but it’s certainly something to take note of.
1. Diagnostic medical sonographer
Annual median salary: $71,410
Projected job growth through 2026: 23 percent
In this job you’ll take monograms or ultrasounds of patients’ bodies.
2. Compliance officer
Annual median salary: $67,870
Projected job growth through 2026: 5 percent
In this job you’ll make sure the company that you work for follows legal and industry regulatory requirements. You often see this job at financial service companies.
3. Hair stylist
Annual median salary: $25,850
Projected job growth through 2026: 13 percent
Always dreamed of learning to be a hair stylist? Apparently it’s not particularly stressful!
4. Audiologist
Annual median salary: $75,920
Projected job growth through 2026: 21 percent
Working in this healthcare job you’ll diagnose and treat patients’ hearing issues.
5. University professor

Projected job growth through 2026: 15 percent
Most university professors teach college and graduate students while conducting research or publishing on the side. It’s a career path known for its job security (though it takes a lot of schooling to get it).
